Lorie L. Campbell Obituary

Lorie was born in Arcola, Saskatchewan on September 20th, 1934 to James and Delia Campbell. He passed away peacefully at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre, Blairmore, Alberta on February 28th, 2024 at the glorious age of 89 years.

Lorie had a very full and adventurous life. He left Arcola in 1952 and joined his brother Harvey to work in the oilfield in and around Leduc, Alberta. From there he ventured north to work on building the Alaska Highway. Lorie tried his hand at prospecting, raising and running dog teams, but one of his favorite ventures was guiding hunters from all over the world on horseback looking for trophy game.

In the late 1960’s Lorie returned to Edmonton to begin his Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship with R. Angus.  This certification later took him overseas to Nigeria and Saudi Arabia working on pipelines for a company out of Texas.

In 1975 Lorie returned to Arcola to care for his aging mother. While there he established his own Heavy Duty Mechanical Business, Campbell Enterprises. It was during this time he met Linda Johnson and her daughter Theresa. Soon thereafter they became parents to their daughter Lori. In 1977 they moved to Ontario until 1979 when he accepted a job with West Star Mining and moved to Sparwood, British Columbia.  That home was short lived as well and they moved to Coleman, Alberta soon after.  Even after all of his travels, he always claimed that the Crowsnest Pass was the best place he ever lived.  When West Star shut down, Lorie attended the Crowsnest Consortium and Lethbridge Community College taking various courses.

In early 1993 the friendship between Lorie and Leslie Foster developed into a loving relationship that went on to last 31 years. He was an amazing father figure, friend and confidant to Danielle, Brooke and Jillian.  In late 1993 Lorie accepted a position with the Heiltsuk Tribe of Bella Bella on Campbell Island in British Columbia. In December 1994 Lorie retired and returned to make a home with his soulmate Leslie and their family. Many of those years were spent enjoying camping, riding, dancing and attending various rodeos together.

Lorie had a great love of family and his grandchildren whom he adored.  He also had a special love for all animals.  Children and animals definitely brought out the softer side of his tough cowboy demeanor.

In the last 18 months, Lorie extended his family to all of the staff in the Continuing Care Centre. There he maintained his sense of humor, storytelling, strength and fun loving character. He had many visitors and was grateful for each and every one of you. He was the most respectful, caring man most would ever know.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life is his partner, Leslie Foster; his children, Lori Campbell (Troy Baumann), Theresa Campbell, Danielle (Jerry) Endall, Brooke Radomski and Jillian (Simon) Wilkinson; his grandchildren, Molly and Kate Baumann, Kaitlynn, Bailey, Tyson and Ryder Endall, Dillon Haidle, Keegan Radomski and Sylas Michaud; his sister, Nelda Fieber; his special nephew, Wade Campbell; his long-time friend, Alf Thompson; his sisters-in-law, Allison (Armando) Morotoli and Darlene Fulton; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends.

He was predeceased by his mother, Delia Campbell (Née: Moran); his father, James Campbell; his brothers, Jim, Jack, Harvey and Clifford; and his sisters, Margaret and Leone.

A celebration of Lorie’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 9, Coleman (7831 - 17 Ave. Coleman, AB T0K 0M0).  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by The Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation “Continuing Care” (PO Box 455 Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0).  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
