Jean Armstrong Obituary

THE VIDEO TRIBUTE HONOURING JEAN IS AVAILABLE BELOW.

Our world became a better place April 14, 1944 when Jean Miyeko Armstrong (Okutake) arrived in Lethbridge to parents Tomosada and Mary Okutake.  Jean was the third of four children and she cared deeply for her brother and sisters.  Jean’s long goodbye ended Saturday, March 9, 2024 ending her courageous suffering from cancer and dementia.

Jean thrived with the simple life.  Her favorite moments were spent with family, her dog’s, Piper and Jack and with good friends whether it be at the curling rink, Friday nights at the round table at the Legion or around a dinner table; these were the things that truly mattered most to her.  She shared her creativity with the many crafts and quilts she made and almost always, she made these as gifts of love and kindness to brighten someone’s day.  She loved living in nature in the Crowsnest Pass with Ken, being able to see the trees swaying from every window.

Jean touched everyone she met with her unforgettable gratitude and kindness.  She always had an empathetic ear and an incredible sense of when to offer advice and when to simply listen.  She always made the time for those moments when she thought she might make someone’s day just a little bit brighter and was thankful for the opportunity to help. She had a quiet determination and a kind way to simplify her advice.  It always distilled down to “you got this” or “you need to let that go”.

Her deepest love was for family.  Her siblings; Vickie, Marion, and Tom and all her nieces, nephews and cousins were always in her thoughts.  She wanted nothing but the best for those she held close.

All of her wonderful traits have been deeply woven into the lives of her partner; Ken Petersen, her children; Denine and Wes (Kathy), her grandchildren; Alexander (Abby), Natalie, Kiera and Seiren.   Our lives are all better because of her gracious and kind presence and although she is no longer with us her true spirit will remain with us until we meet again.

The Memorial Service honouring and celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 1pm in Fantin’s Funeral Chapel (13461-20t Ave), Blairmore, AB.  Tributes will be offered by family and friends with a light luncheon to follow.  Donations in memory of the late Jean Armstrong may be directed towards your local Food Bank.  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
