WRAY KENNEY
(1928-2016)
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Wray Kenney of Blairmore, Alberta, May 19, 2016 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre at the age of 87 years. Wray was born December 27, 1928 in Lethbridge and was raised in the Coaldale area.
Papa to his grandkids and “Ole” Wray to the rest of us, he will be remembered for his wit, sense of humour, and strong opinions about anything you would care to discuss including aircrafts, cars, politics, and computers. Conversations were very important.
Wray was a well-respected and hard-working entrepreneur. He was the owner of a Pepsi-Cola distributorship for 37 years. Prior to that, he gained employment with several firms including Sales Manager at CJLH TV.
Wray enjoyed his leisure time at the Kootenay Lake place and holidays in Mexico, as well as other countries. He loved music, especially jazz, classical and the songs of Sinatra, Bing and Ella.
Wray volunteered in fund-raising for various causes and was a proud member of the Lethbridge Kinsmen Club, Blairmore Lions Club, Blairmore Legion, and Masonic Lodge #30. His strong personality helped him to take his health challenges head-on. He loved his family - even a little bragging occurred.
He is survived by Kay (nee Phillips) his loving wife of 62 years; his beloved children, Terry (Laurie) Kenney, Scott Kenney of Norway, Shannon Joseph and Brent Kenney; his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Per William, Catherine, Sarah of Norway, Joey, Joel, Jessie, Josiah and Corey. He is also survived by his brothers, Bert (Shirley) Kenney, Murph (Sandy) Kenney, Bill (Linda) Kenney, and his sister Doreen (Richard) Chollack; brothers-in-law, Wayne Anderson, Peter (Marion) Pascal and Alf (LuRene) Phillips; and by numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his sister Donna Anderson.
The Celebration honouring Wray’s life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Crownest Pass Curling Club Hall (8702-22 Ave) in Coleman.
