Rosa (Schaffer) Raski

   It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rosa Raski on September 23, 2017 at the glorious age of 94 years.

   Rosa was born in Tatabánya, Hungary, the second of seven siblings.  She was raised to cherish family and to work hard no matter what the task.  On June 22, 1957, Rosa arrived in Canada with her husband, Frank and her family.  She took great pride in creating a warm and nurturing home, and later went on to acquire work as a caretaker at Isabelle Sellon School; a position she held for twenty-two years.

   When she wasn’t busy taking care of her family, Rosa enjoyed playing bingo and volunteering in the community, and was also a longtime member of the Hungarian Club.  Rosa’s greatest treasure was her children and grandchildren – she was never happier than when spending time with them.  Her kind, loving spirit will never be forgotten.

   Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children, Zoltan (Sharon) Raski, Elizabeth (Karl) Neddo, Gizella (Ed) Friel and Frank Raski; her grandchildren, Cheryl (Scott) Lane, Tracey Fournier, Tammy (James) Jensen, Diane (James) Friel-Toppin; her great grandchildren, Ashley and Maddison Lane, Katelyn and Brittany Fournier, Macey-Jo Friel and Mia Jensen and Derrick Toppin; her sister, Ilona Schaffer of Belgium; as well as her extended family and many friends.

   She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Raski; her parents; her infant son; and five of her siblings.

   With respect for Rosa’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.  Rosa’s family extends special thanks to the staff at the Crowsnest Pass Continuing Care Centre for the compassionate care they provided.  Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation “Continuing Care” (P.
