ROBERTA  MARUCA

(1932-2015)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roberta Maruca of Blairmore, Alberta who was called to be with the Lord on November 5, 2015 while receiving care at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre.  She was blessed with 83 wonderful years.

Roberta was born on April 28, 1932 in Coleman, Alberta to parents, Robert & Caroline Phillips.  She had an appreciation for family and community as well as a generous nature to help those in need.  As she blossomed into a lovely young lady, she captured the heart of a dashing young man, Eugenio Maruca, and they pledged their love in holy matrimony.  Roberta and Gino raised their family with unconditional love cherishing each other.

Roberta enjoyed her time quilting with the “Rag Bags”, curling, knitting, reading, family gatherings, and socializing with friends over a cup of coffee.  She was a loyal friend to many and loved playing Whist with her card group for over fifty years.  She was very independent & “tech-savvy”. She enjoyed giving everyone a good run at "Words with Friends" and loved travelling to distant lands with Gino and, later, with her children.  She spent countless hours volunteering at the Tuck Shop, community Flu Clinics, and managing the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation for the Crowsnest Pass.  She was humorous, positive in her attitude and devoted to her family.  A wonderful woman who touched our hearts, she will greatly missed but fondly remembered.

She is survived by her children, Claire (George) Holt of Coleman, Cheryl (Randy) Parsons of Ft. McMurray and James Maruca of Calgary; her longtime friend, Jean Nicifore; her grandchildren, Michelle (Riley) Leroux, Chantal (Ryan) Leroux, Bonnie (Mark) How and Neil Parsons; her great grandchildren, Sarah, Ethan, Aaron, Marina and Kristen; her siblings, Joseph Lothian, Phyllis Armstrong and Arthur Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family; and her many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gino Maruca; her parents, Robert & Caroline Phillips; her brother, George “Dodie” Lothian; and her twin sister, Alberta Blas.

With respect for her wishes, no funeral services will be held.

Donations in memory may be made to the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation (Palliative Care Program), Bag 1, Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
