ROBERT  PLATT

(1939-2016)

   It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Robert Platt of Fernie, British Columbia who was called to be with the Lord on July 13, 2016 while receiving compassionate care at the Rocky Mountain Village retirement complex in Fernie.  He was blessed with 76 years of life.

   Bob was born on September 8, 1939 in Windsor, Ontario to parents Robert Sr. and Freda Platt.  At an early age, he learned to appreciate the value of family, the splendor of nature and the dedication to one’s country and those freedoms we depend upon.  As Bob grew to manhood, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and served faithfully until he was honourably discharged.  He gained skills as an automotive mechanic and even repaired and assembled aircrafts. His greatest accomplishment was winning the heart of a lovely young lady, Bonnie Margaret Lazslo, and after a romantic courtship, they pledged their love with marriage on July 11, 1959 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  They were further blessed with three cherished daughters, and later, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

   Bob loved sports and was a talented baseball pitcher as well as an avid Edmonton Eskimos fan.  He enjoyed tinkering on vehicles and hunting, fishing, boating and camping with his family.  He enjoyed many accomplishments and success in his life and endured many trials and injuries but throughout his many years, Bob learned that times shared with family and friends is truly the most important time you will ever have.  He will be truly missed and fondly remembered.

   Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life include his beloved wife, Bonnie Platt of Fernie, BC; his devoted daughters, Sandra (Charlie) McCormick of Fernie, BC, Cheryl (Bill) Woolridge of Kelowna, BC and Paula (Dennis) Brazzoni of Bellevue, AB; his cherished grandchildren, Scott (Amanda) McCormick of Fernie, BC, Stan (Sadi) Yuszko of Elkford, BC, Stephanie (Pat) Keller of Sparwood, BC, Robert (Serena) Woolridge and Thomas Woolridge of Westbank, BC and Jesse Brazzoni and Brandon Brazzoni of Bellevue, AB; his precious great grandchildren, Hunter, Ryder & Sawyer McCormick, Jackson Keller and Fynnlee Woolridge; his siblings, Jerry (Sue) Platt of Windsor, ON, Art (Paulette) Platt of Hinton, AB and Catherine Laird of Windsor, ON; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. 

   He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Sr. Freda Platt; brother-in-law, Bill Laird; nephew, David Laird; and niece Lori Laird.

   The private Visitation Wake service was held on July 14, 2016 at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore, AB.  Cremation followed.

   The Memorial Service celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Fantin's Funeral Chapel in Blairmore (13461-20^th Ave) with the reception and refreshments to follow.  Honourary Urn Bearers are: Stan Yuszko, Scott McCormick, Robert Woolridge, Tom Woolridge, Charlie McCormick, Pat Keller, Jerry Platt and Art Platt.  A special tribute by the Royal Canadian Legion will occur.
