Maria Teresa (Reder) Farfus

   It is with incredible sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Farfus of Bellevue on May 12, 2016 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre.  She was 86 years of age.

   Maria was born in Sitaniec, Poland on March 10, 1930 to proud parents, Edward and Weronika Reder.  Along with her brother, she was raised to be a caring, hardworking individual, and to appreciate all the blessings life gives you.  In Germany, Maria met Kasimierz Farfus and they were joined in holy matrimony in 1949.  Together with their families, they immigrated to Canada in 1950.  Their first home was in the Lethbridge area where they had a contract to work on a sugar beet farm.  Two years, later, they moved to Bellevue, AB where they established their permanent home and raised their three sons.

   Maria was a devoted wife and mother and a true matriarch to her family.  She especially looked forward to holidays when everyone would be together to enjoy each other’s company and the delicious feast she would lovingly prepare.  Her care and hospitality reached far beyond her own family and included everyone who passed through her door; so much so that almost all who knew her affectionately called her “Gramma Mary”.  Maria was well known for her talent as a cook and baker, and no one ever left her home hungry.  She also had a strong sense of faith and community, which was evident in the many years she was an active and proud member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Cyril’s church in Bellevue.  Her generosity and love will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

   Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her beloved husband, Kasimierz Farfus of Bellevue, AB; her devoted sons, Walter (Judy) Farfus of Blairmore, AB, George Farfus of Lethbridge, AB and Richard (Rosalie) Farfus of Coleman, AB; her cherished grandchildren, Alesha (Sheldon), Amanda (Dave), Jennifer (Bobby), Dustin, Emma and Allison; her treasured great grandchildren, Spencer, Bensyn, Noah, Mataya and Molly; her extended family and the countless friends she made throughout her life.

   She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Weronika Reder; her brother, Roman; and her daughter-in-law, Lori.

   With respect for Maria’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maria will be gratefully accepted by the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation (P. O. Box 455, Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0).  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
