Welcome to the memorial page for

Jewel Iris (Schmidt) Toppin

September 16, 1935 ~ October 30, 2016 (age 81) 81 Years Old

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jewel Toppin on October 30, 2016 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre in Blairmore AB.  She was 81 years old.

Jewel was born in Didsbury, AB on September 16, 1935 to proud parents, Nels and Esther Schmidt.  She blossomed into a lovely, kind young woman who appreciated family, friends and all of life’s blessings.  In 1961, Jewel moved to the Crowsnest Pass, and on March 3, 1973 she married the love of her life, James Toppin.  Together, she and James raised six wonderful children in a warm, nurturing home.

When Jewel wasn’t busy taking care of her household, she enjoyed knitting, and was well known for the quality and care that she put into every piece.  More than anything, Jewel treasured her family.  She loved creating beautiful memories with them, and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Although Jewel has moved on from this life, she will live on in our hearts and memories.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her devoted children, Betty (John Vassar) Johnston of Coleman, AB, Stanley (Betty Beaulieu) Toppin of Lethbridge, AB, Iris Dow of Lacombe, AB, Dennis Toppin of Lacombe, AB, Frank (Bev) Toppin of Hillcrest, AB and Linda (Lockie) Fraser of Blairmore, AB; her cherished grandchildren, Elisha, James, Lindsey, Daniel, Kenneth, Jessica, Pamela, Shellie, Jeffery, Tanya, Alexander, Samantha and Darbie; her treasured great grandchildren, Jordan, Jace, Hailey, Matthew, Mackenzie, Morgan, Mitchel, Dylan, Ashlyn, Lillian, Abreana, Kevin, Marley, Emily, Derrick and Sierra; her sisters, Annie of Saskatchewan, Cora of Innisfail, AB and Doris of Sundre, AB; as well as her extended family and the many friends she made throughout her life.

Jewel was predeceased by her beloved husband, James; her parents, Nels and Esther; her grandson, Ricky; and her brothers, Stanley and Frank.

A private family service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Canadian Diabetes Association (204 – 2323, 32 Ave. NE, Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3).  Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca
