Agnes Mary (Margetak) Balog

December 16, 1928 ~ May 29, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Agnes Mary Balog passed away peacefully on May 29th, 2017 at Foothills Hospital in Calgary.  Agnes was born on December 16, 1928 to Joe and Veronica Margetak in Blairmore, Alberta.   She grew up in the Crowsnest Pass, venturing to Calgary at the age of 18 to attend the Holy Cross School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse in 1950.  On graduation, she returned to Blairmore, where she worked in the hospital for many years.

In 1952, while attending a family wedding, Agnes and Milan Balog met, danced and fell in love resulting in their marriage on June 6, 1953.  Together, they had three sons, Mark, Brent and Dean, whom they raised in the Crowsnest Pass with unwavering devotion and unconditional love.  Her ‘boys’ were her pride and joy; a frequent topic of conversation with friends and acquaintances.

Agnes always did her best at everything she attempted.  She was a very accomplished seamstress, cook, baker, bookkeeper, gardener, avid golfer, devoted wife, and loving mother.   She had an incredible work ethic and keen business sense and was never shy to express her ideas or thoughts.  She loved Milan dearly and they were never apart in the entire 64 years of their marriage.

Agnes is survived by her husband, Milan of Calgary, AB; her three sons, Mark Balog of Calgary, AB, Brent Balog and Dean Balog (Brenda) both of Dewinton, AB; five grandchildren, Kiva, Megan, Erik, Anja, and Trent; her brother, Lud Margetak of Frank, AB; her extended family; as well as the numerous friends she made over the years.  She will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Prayer Service at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church (13126 21st Ave, Blairmore, AB) on Tuesday, June 6th, , 2017 at 8pm with Deacon Renso Castellarin presiding.  The Memorial Mass will be celebrated the following day, Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church at 11am with Fr.
